The 39th biennial Ryder Cup was held last week in Medinah, Illinois, and team Europe came out victorious over team U.S.A in a close match, with Europe winning with a total 14 1/2 points over the United States' 13 1/2. The victors were lead by team captain Jose Maria Olazabal. Team U.S.A was captained by David Love III. On the final day, the states were leading with a 10-6 point lead over Europe, with Europe coming back with 8 1/2 points of their own. America fought hard, but this intense battle on the golfing range was one war they did not win. Three Ryder Cup rookies played on the side of U.S.A., and Nicolas Colsaerts (Belgium) made his Ryder Cup debut, and was also 1 of 2 captain's pick for Europe. Brent Snedeker for U.S.A. was also a rookie and captain's pick.
